about the magazine

Silent Riot is the first print issue of Paprika Magazine: 128 pages about rage in music, made over two years by a volunteer team with no budget and no salaries.

The world speeds up, media get shorter and shallower. We want the opposite: slow media.

Silent Riot is a magazine you want to hold, leaf through and come back to. A tactile, stylish object that says on its own that independent culture is worth something.

While most magazines moved into social media, we did the reverse: from social media back to print. It is our way of resisting clip-thinking, digitisation and disposability.

The main theme of the first issue is rage in music.

We look at how rage shows up in music culture: not only genres and sounds, but the social context, the artists' positions, the cultural discourse and how audiences react. Rage is an attractive and special emotion that is often misunderstood or reduced to a cliché. We want to show that it does not come out of nowhere: it is a way to resist, to speak up, to rethink the world.

Paprika Glossy is a non-commercial initiative run by a big team of people who give their time and energy so that something new and alive appears in culture. Readers paid for the print: 64 people backed the issue on a crowdfunding platform.

We want music journalism to exist in today's Russia (and beyond) that can be deep, emotional and visually strong, and that is not afraid of topics people usually avoid talking about openly.

Silent Riot is the first step. This is our riot.

If you want culture to have room for a living, personal, reflective voice, buying the magazine supports the very fact that it exists.

support paprika

This is Paprika Magazine. We are a non-commercial multimedia magazine about contemporary music culture. Since 2021 we have supported local scenes, worked with independent labels and institutions, and promoted a more mindful way of listening.

In that time we have released our first glossy issue, Silent Riot, and published more than a hundred original bilingual pieces. We want to bring the music of Eastern Europe out of cultural isolation.

We believe in what we do, and to keep going we need your support. As a non-commercial project we want to keep speaking without bias and to feel confident about tomorrow. Supporting us, you help not only the magazine but a big team of enthusiasts: writers, designers, editors, curators, speakers.

This is us. We love what we do and want to do more, and better.

— with love, Paprika Magazine

where the money goes

We will finally start paying the team for their work
We will start preparing the next print issue
We will hold the Paprika Loves festival in a new region
We will gather everything the magazine has published on one website
We will open an office in Moscow with an open pprk.market space — for us, for you and for events (a very wet dream)

become a sponsor

Another way to support the magazine and help independent music culture grow, in word and deed, is to become a Paprika Magazine sponsor.

We have many projects and initiatives sitting in the backlog for lack of funding. Our ambitions are big and our resources are limited. If you are ready to make a lasting contribution, write to us at paprika.magazine@mail.ru and we will come back with a proposal.

Thank you for your support, our sponsor, patron and simply good friend :)
